Tuesday night was a warm sweet night in Montreal. Temperature around 12 °C and the launch of the second album of Coeur de Pirate at the beautiful Rialto Theater. A mix of fans and media was gathered for what turned to be a very smooth concert. Béatrice Martin, surrounded by six musicians started with paradoxically with "Adieu" which means farewell. Behind her piano or just singing, the show kept a quiet pace. Jimmy Hunt and Sam Robert joined the 22 year-old singer to sing "Pour un infidèle" and "Loin d’ici".
If you didn’t know whole the lyrics, well that was nearly impossible to get the meaning of the songs. To much Reverb effect in her voice… The concert was ok but far from being a magical moment. Coeur de Pirate didn’t seem very relaxed and was paying more attention to her band than to the audience, even though I caught a glimpse. Let’s say it was a warm-up performance and hope next one will be more passionate.
Next time Coeur de Pirate will be in Montreal will be February 24th, at Métropolis. Until that, you can listen to the album…
